Hail Storm Information
We here at Built get a lot of questions about hail, so we would like to provide some basic info for common questions on the subject:
- Does a hail storm affect houses in pretty much the same way?
– No, there are many different factors that can affect the hail damage that may occur to a house. These include wind direction and velocity, pitch of the roof, and the quantity/size of the hail.
- How large can a hail stone actually get?
– The largest recorded stone had an 8 inch diameter but most storms produce stones much smaller.
- Is it normal to see weathering of my shingles in my gutters, driveway, or other places?
-Yes, loss of shingle granules and integrity happens naturally over time.
- Can individual shingles be replaced or do I need to replace the whole roof at the same time?
– Individual shingles can be replaced, rather than having to perform the service on the whole
roof, if need be.
- How can further damage be prevented after a hail storm?
– Cover any broken windows or openings with a tarp. Only cover what you can do so safely.
