Common Water Damage Scenarios
As many people are aware, there is a plethora of ways that a home can incur water damage. In this article, we would like to explore this and provide some background information on mitigating these occurrences.
The main type of water damage we deal with is from faulty appliances. This constitutes dishwashers, sinks, faucets, heaters, toilets, bathtubs, and the like. Pipes fail, parts get rusted out or compromised, or sometimes a bathtub is imply left on for too long. These types of problems, as we’ve stated, are very common. However, these issues, however frequent, result in a wide range of damage. A failed water heater can damage much more if its located in the attic rather than the garage.
Another common form of water damage occurs from storms. This can be seen as rain entering a home through a crack in the structure of the home somewhere or flooding that causes ground water to seep into a home. Obviously, the seriousness of a major storm cannot be overstated, but sometimes even rain falling at the right angle can enter into a home through a crack not previously known.
Probably the most infamous of water damage occurrences is sewage backup. There are very specific regulations and measures taken in order to mitigate this type of damage. Generally, any material that this type of water touches is thrown out in a proper manner.
Finally, as you could probably imagine, water damage also occurs as a result of firefighting efforts. Therefore, in the event of a fire, the homeowner is often dealing with water damage at the same time as fire damage.
